Crisis in the government after the removal of PF director puts Jorge Messias in check

The crisis installed in the government after the removal of the director general of the PF (Federal Police), Andrei Rodrigues, fell into the lap of the head of the AGU (Attorney General of the Union), Jorge Messias.

Hours after the decision by STF (Supreme Federal Court) minister André Mendonça, government ministers made a point of reporting their dissatisfaction with the stance of their colleague, who did not confront Mendonça when the PF asked him to.

In the opinion of some members of the government, the crisis only escalated because there was no brake on the actions of the Supreme Court minister.

Dissatisfaction with the Union's attorney general began when Mendonça's decisions began to irritate the corporation. Even with Andrei's requests, Messias chose not to question the decisions.

The STF minister is seen as a strong ally of Messiah. Mendonça openly supported his nomination to the Supreme Court. Now, however, even allies see a new nomination of Messias to the more distant STF.

President Lula (PT) had already been discussing behind the scenes nominating judge Ricardo Couto before resending Messias' nomination.

The government's assessment is that the sending of the name of the head of the AGU can still occur because of the affection that Lula has for him, but the postponement has become inevitable.
