Collapse of a gold mine in southern Sudan: at least 60 dead and missing

A gold mine collapsed in southern Sudan, causing the death of at least 60 miners: two survivors told AFP, while many other people are missing and are feared to have died under the rubble.

The shafts of the Al-Zaraa mine, near the town of El-Nahud in West Kordofan, had begun to cave in on Tuesday and, by the following morning, 60 bodies had been recovered.

"We don't know how many others are still inside," said one of the survivors, Khair al-Sayyed Jabara, at the end of an all-night rescue operation.
