Rain will start again in Istanbul on Friday

Yağan made statements to the AA correspondent about the heavy rains in Istanbul and the weather conditions in the coming days.

Yağan stated that, as the General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM), in their analysis, they predicted that Türkiye will be under the influence of the rainy system as of the first week of this month, and said that Istanbul and its surroundings have become vulnerable to the effects of this rainy system.

Yağan stated that the rainy system that affected Istanbul yesterday was a cold rainy system coming over the Balkans and said, "We determine these rains daily according to the rainfall we measure between 09.00 in the morning and 09.00 the next day, and we share this with our citizens as daily rainfall information through MGM's website and MGM's application." he said.

"Our warning continues in Istanbul"

Reminding that they had predicted thunderstorms for Istanbul starting from October 7, Yağan said, "We shared this with our citizens in all our daily forecasts, weekly weather forecast reports and hourly weather forecast reports. As a result of our meteorological evaluations, we decided to issue a meteorological early warning on Tuesday afternoon. This was a two-day warning. Currently, our warning continues until midnight in Istanbul. We predicted that the rains would spread over time in two days and issued a yellow code warning." he said.

Yağan pointed out that Istanbul's European Side, the northern parts of the European Side and the northern parts of the Anatolian Side were more affected by this rainy system, and informed that the heaviest rainfall was seen in Beykoz yesterday with 186.3 kilograms.

Stating that the soil in Istanbul is saturated with rainfall, Yağan said:

"We have already mentioned this flood and inundation in our meteorological early warning. In line with this, there are puddles in hollow areas, stream beds and areas suitable for water collection, especially in some regions. Therefore, this risk cannot be taken. The soil is saturated. The rains have already stopped in Istanbul. We can see such very light heavy rains on the Anatolian side. These rains will continue like this until midnight. It is estimated that the rain will start again in Istanbul with the southerly wind from the southern parts from the first hours of Friday. "We expect it to be locally strong, especially in the northern parts of the European side of the city."

Yağan stated that they have no evaluation regarding the "yellow" coded warning turning into an "orange" coded warning in Istanbul and continued as follows:

"Currently, we are talking about a yellow code warning that will spread over time and will take effect over time. The warning we issued today starts at 09.00 tomorrow morning and continues until 23.59 on Saturday. On Friday, we will see slightly heavier rains in the northern parts of the city, especially the northern parts of the European side, under the influence of these southerly winds. We estimate that the northern districts of the city, such as Arnavutköy and Beykoz, will be affected. This effect continues to the coasts of Kırklareli and Tekirdağ. "After Friday and the first hours of Saturday, the rains are getting stronger again. We recommend that our citizens be a little more careful in the next 3 days until Saturday."
