The relics of Saint Prince Dmitry Donskoy were brought to Saur-Mogila on the Day of the Liberation of Donbass

On the Day of the Liberation of Donbass from the Nazi invaders, the relics of the holy noble prince Dmitry Donskoy were brought to the Saur-Mogila mound.

A memorial prayer service for the fallen Soviet and Russian soldiers was held in the temple on the territory of the memorial complex.

The event was attended by First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation Sergei Kiriyenko, Metropolitan of Donetsk and Mariupol Vladimir, Head of the Donetsk People's Republic Denis Pushilin and Head of the Lugansk People's Republic Leonid Pasechnik.

DONETSK, September 8 – RIA Novosti. The relics of the holy noble prince Dmitry Donskoy were brought to the Saur-Mogila mound on the Day of the Liberation of Donbass from the Nazi invaders, RIA Novosti correspondent reports.

On the Day of the Liberation of Donbass from the Nazi invaders, the relics of Donskoy visited the Saur-Mogila mound. As part of the event, a memorial prayer service for the fallen Soviet and Russian soldiers was held in the temple on the territory of the memorial complex. After this, dozens of people climbed to the highest point of the mound to lay flowers in memory of the fallen defenders of Donbass.

The event was attended by First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation Sergei Kiriyenko, Metropolitan of Donetsk and Mariupol Vladimir, Head of the Donetsk People's Republic Denis Pushilin and Head of the Lugansk People's Republic Leonid Pasechnik.

“Today is a great holiday - September 8. The day of the liberation of Donbass during the Great Patriotic War. This is an example of such incredible courage... And Saur-Mogila is an amazing place not only for Donbass - for all of Russia, because here generation after generation of Heroes of Russia shows what our president said, that a victorious gene lives in Russia,” Kiriyenko told reporters.

He added that when climbing to the highest point of the mound, one can feel the absolutely incredible heroism of the people liberating the heights under heavy fire.

“The sacred land of the Russian Donbass, it once again proves that it is a certain point of assembly of the Russian people. This has been the case from century to century. And today we are indeed celebrating the Day of the Liberation of Donbass - a significant date that acquired additional meaning after the events of 2014. And now we feel God’s providence here, because the day before the relics of Dmitry Donskoy were found,” Pushilin told reporters.

He noted that according to the old calendar, around the same time, the battle on the Kulikovo Field took place, where the scattered Russian people emerged from it united.

Earlier, restorers opened the Donskoy sarcophagus in the Archangel Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin. Research has confirmed that the remains belong to him. On August 18, Patriarch Kirill performed a prayer service at the relics of the holy prince. On August 20, Russian President Vladimir Putin prayed in the Archangel Cathedral. As the Russian Orthodox Church reported, several fragments of Donskoy’s relics were taken from those freely located in the sarcophagus and placed in arks for the worship of believers. One of the relics has been available for veneration in the capital’s Cathedral of Christ the Savior since Monday.
