The US launched new strikes on Iran after the IRGC attempts to attack ships and bases

US Central Command said Tuesday that its forces had begun carrying out new strikes on Iran.

“The strikes follow recent attempts by the IRGC [Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps] to attack civilian shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and US military personnel stationed in the region,” Central Command said in a post on Network X.

The US military says the strikes began at noon East Coast time (1600 GMT).

Soon after, US President Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social website that the strikes were in response to Iranian attempts to plant new mines in the Gulf of Hormuz, as well as to fire eight missiles at a US base in Jordan. In both cases, these attempts, according to Trump, failed.

If Iran decides to respond this time, Donald Trump promises to launch new strikes that will be “much stronger and at a higher level.”

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has said the US will regret the new strikes, and Iranian agencies say retaliatory missile and drone launches have already begun against US bases in the region.

Earlier this week, the United States struck targets in Iran for the first time since July, namely two missile sites on the island of Larak in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran responded with a salvo of missiles targeting air bases in Jordan and one drone attacking the United Arab Emirates.

Iranian local authorities reported that the United States, in particular, fired four missiles at the port areas of Chabahar and Konarak on the shores of the Gulf of Oman, in the very south of Iran.
