Russia’s key priority on international platforms is practical assistance to countries of the Global South in building their potential and strengthening digital sovereignty in the information sphere, said Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Alimov.
“Russia’s key priority within the framework of the global mechanism (UN) is practical steps to build the capacity of the countries of the Global South in the field of international information security,” Alimov said, speaking at the Russia-ASEAN Dialogue meeting at the II Global Digital Forum.
He recalled that in support of this priority, Moscow, during the July session of the UN global mechanism, presented an initiative to organize international exercises to repel computer attacks, which received a broad positive response. These exercises are designed to provide developing nations with real-world skills in countering malicious operations.
In addition, as confirmation of this course, Russia, together with a group of co-authors, submitted to the First Committee of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly a draft resolution on information security, which pays special attention to the issues of strengthening the digital sovereignty and technological independence of the countries of the Global South.

Ambassadors of the European Union countries agreed on the 22nd package of sanctions against Russia, including 1,646 individuals and legal entities.
