Davutoğlu Testified at the Ankara Courthouse Within the Scope of the Investigation Regarding the Allegation of Insult

Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an ex officio investigation against Davutoğlu due to statements circulated on social media platforms that were considered to be insulting to the President.

According to the news in ANKA, the investigation was launched after social media posts regarding Davutoğlu's speech in a program he attended approximately six years ago came to the fore again.

DAVUTOĞLU CAME TO THE COURTHOUSE

As part of the investigation carried out by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Davutoğlu came to Ankara Courthouse to testify. DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan and Saadet Party Chairman Mahmut Arıkan also came to the courthouse to support Davutoğlu.

DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan was the first to come to Ankara Courthouse to support Davutoğlu. When Davutoğlu arrived, he greeted Babacan and entered the courthouse together. Saadet Party Chairman Mahmut Arıkan also came to the courthouse to support.

On the other hand, it was learned that NEW Party Chairman Özgür Özel called Davutoğlu on the phone before going to the statement and conveyed his feelings of solidarity.

HIS STATEMENT HAS BEEN REVEALED

In his statement, which lasted about an hour, Davutoğlu said briefly: "The speech subject to the investigation is a political speech that I made in Bingöl on September 11, 2021, and which I still stand behind every sentence today. I stand behind my words. Because these words are not an expression of personal anger, but an expression of the will to protect the nation's law, state morality and justice. I did not commit a crime; I fulfilled my constitutional right and political responsibility.

The decision that will be made about me today will not only be about me personally; It will also indicate what kind of Turkey our children will live in tomorrow. We have to leave to our children the courage of free thought, not the silence of fear, and the light of law, not the darkness of arbitrariness.

In line with the legal, political and moral reasons I explained; "In this investigation file, whose procedure and timing indicate that the action was motivated by political motives, I request a decision that there is no immediate prosecution against me in accordance with Article 172 of the Code of Criminal Procedure."
