Taichung City promotes shared transportation vehicles to be stationed in universities to reduce dependence on private motorcycles

All universities have started school to solve the problem of short-distance transportation for college students. The Taichung City Transportation Bureau stated that Taichung City's shared transportation vehicles have expanded their presence in campus living areas such as Feng Chia University and National Taiwan Sports University, making it convenient to connect Taichung MRT, buses, Taiwan Railways and other stations, reducing reliance on private motor vehicles and implementing carbon reduction benefits.

The Transportation Bureau stated that there are currently three operators in the city, including iRent, GoShare and WeMo, providing shared transportation services, with a total of 173 shared minibuses and 1,500 shared electric scooters. Students are encouraged to "rent instead of buying", which will help reduce the use of private motor vehicles and create a new low-carbon option for school travel.

Transportation Director Ye Zhaofu pointed out that in response to the "2050 Net Zero Emissions" goal, the Taichung City Government has actively promoted diversified green transportation networks and improved public transportation efficiency. In recent years, as the demand for the use of shared transportation vehicles has increased, the Transportation Bureau continues to understand the operating conditions of operators and conduct management based on actual transportation needs and public space usage.

The Transportation Bureau stated that Taichung is the second largest city in Taiwan and is home to many colleges and universities. Shared transportation operators have started to build dedicated stations at Feng Chia University and National Taiwan Sports University in the new semester, and have set up transfer demonstration stations at Songzhu Station, Beitun Terminal and other stations. By combining MRT and shared scooters, they have planned exclusive parking spots for shared scooters to help campuses relieve traffic flow and maintain surrounding traffic order.

There are currently 17 tertiary institutions in Taichung City, most of which are located in densely populated urban areas. Feng Chia University is close to the bustling business district and has a large flow of people and traffic. National Taiwan University of Sports has set the goal of connecting the main circulation lines of the campus to allow students to use transportation flexibly. This will help reduce the number of private motorcycles parked on campus, free up more space on campus, and bring shared transportation vehicles into the campus life circle. It also further encourages the younger generation to develop the mobility habit of "re-renting and returning when needed" to build a complete low-carbon environment.

The Transportation Bureau pointed out that some shared transportation operators have recently cooperated with colleges and universities and the Taichung Rapid Transit Company. In response to the development of shared transportation services, the city government has formulated relevant regulations such as the "Taichung City Shared Transportation Industry Management Autonomy Regulations" and the "Taichung City Shared Transportation Industry Management Measures" for management.
