The EU declared a threat to the bloc due to the incident with a Russian UAV in Romania

The European Union (EU) has declared a threat to the bloc on its eastern flank due to an incident with a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in Romania. Politico reports this.

It is noted that the publication received access to the latest version of the draft joint statement, which will be published following the negotiations in the European Council, dated June 16.

“The European Council strongly condemns the serious incident that occurred on 29 May 2026, when a Russian drone carrying explosives crashed into a residential building in Romania, and recognizes the immediate threats to the EU on the eastern flank,” the document says.
