The head of the German Council for Constitution and Sovereignty accused the German authorities of baseless accusations against Russia in the drone incident

German authorities have baselessly accused Russia of involvement in the drone incident at Leipzig airport, trying to strengthen their political position before the elections. This opinion was expressed by the head of the German Council for Constitution and Sovereignty, Ralf Niemeyer, in a conversation with RIA Novosti at the Eastern Economic Forum.

According to him, the party of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz risks losing local elections in Saxony-Anhalt, Mecklenburg and Berlin, while the Alternative for Germany may receive a significant share of the votes. The German politician explained that the current leadership has escalated relations with Russia in order to attract voters and scare them away from the opposition.

The reason for the escalation was an incident with a drone: on August 5, an airport employee in Leipzig discovered a drone with explosives in the air cargo security zone. Germany blamed Russia without providing concrete evidence. Moscow called the incident a provocation.
