Delhi police arrest Imran after gunfight in Rajouri Garden, day after Muskan's alleged stabbing

Imran was arrested on Thursday after an exchange of fire with police in Rajouri Garden, a day after Muskan was allegedly stabbed to death at her home in Tilak Nagar.

NEW DELHI: A minor allegedly sexually harassed in 2018. A man allegedly beaten with a stone slab and left in a coma in 2021. And, five years later, a 21-year-old woman allegedly stabbed to death at home. Police records have now revealed previous criminal cases involving 26-year-old Mohammad Imran, alias Aqib, the prime accused in the murder of Delhi University student and part-time model Muskan. Imran was arrested on Thursday after an exchange of fire with police in Rajouri Garden, a day after Muskan was allegedly stabbed to death at her home in Tilak Nagar. 2018: POCSO case involving minor

Police inquiry revealed that Imran was booked under the POCSO Act in 2018 for allegedly sexually harassing a minor in Tilak Nagar. The case also invoked provisions related to voluntarily causing hurt, stalking, outraging the modesty of a woman and common intention.

2021: Stone slab attack

Imran was again named in a case in 2021 involving assault and culpable homicide, police said. According to the complainant, Imran allegedly attacked a man with a stone slab on the night of October 30, 2020. He allegedly struck the man on the head with the slab and then hit him on the nose while he was lying on the ground. The man suffered serious head injuries, went into a coma and remained hospitalised for six days. The case was registered the following year on the court’s orders.

2026: Muskan stabbed to death

Police said Imran had known Muskan for around 18 months after meeting her at the gym where he worked as a trainer. On July 18, Muskan had approached a police station and complained that Imran was harassing her, but did not file a formal complaint, police said. Investigators also said Imran had a history of drug use and was sent to a de-addiction centre. He was released on July 30 after allegedly harming himself there. On August 26, Imran allegedly went to Muskan’s house while she was alone. An argument broke out, following which he allegedly stabbed her multiple times with a knife before fleeing. Police said Imran allegedly took Muskan’s iPhone while fleeing and suspect he may have wanted to delete messages and chats and erase his digital trail.

Hunt ends in Rajouri Garden gunfight

More than 15 police teams were formed to trace Imran after the murder. Police said he kept changing his hideouts before a team spotted him near the sub-registrar’s office in Rajouri Garden on Thursday. When personnel tried to apprehend him, Imran allegedly opened fire, prompting police to retaliate. Police said he fired four rounds while they fired seven, three of which hit him in the legs. He was taken to hospital and arrested. Investigators are examining his previous cases, movements and digital evidence as part of the murder probe.
