Subcontracted workers who have not been paid for 4 months in Denizli Merkezefendi went to the roof

Subcontracted workers working in the construction of 15-storey luxury residences in Merkezefendi district of Denizli went on the roof and protested because they had not received their wages for 4 months. The workers stated that they would not get off the roof until their money was deposited into their accounts.

The incident took place at the ongoing residence construction on Bülent Ecevit Boulevard in Göveçlik District of Denizli's Merkezefendi district. According to the information obtained, subcontractor workers working in the 15-storey luxury housing project went to the roof of the construction, claiming that they had not received their wages from the contractor company for about 4 months. Many police, firefighters and medical teams were dispatched to the area after citizens who saw the workers climbing onto the roof and starting a protest reported. Police and fire teams took extensive security measures in the area against any negativity. Workers on the roof were seen throwing pieces of concrete at the company officials waiting below. Workers called down from the roof and demanded compensation for their labor, which they had not received for months.

"WE WILL NOT GET OFF UNTIL OUR MONEY IS PAID"

Workers stated that they would not leave the roof until their wages were deposited into their accounts. Security forces started mediation talks in order to convince the workers who continued their protests and to prevent the incident from escalating.

The workers on the roof expressed their grievance as follows: "We have been here for 4 months, we have not received a penny of money. They have been stalling us for 4 months by saying we will pay today, we will pay tomorrow. We had to go to the roof and strike. We want our rights, our sweat. We have children at home. We have come to a point where we cannot meet their needs. We want the money in return for our labor. We have worked with all our strength here, but there is no reward. They are constantly stalling us, they do not deposit our money. Our family expects money from us, so we do." "There is no money, let them invest our money," he said.
