Loss of Life in the Earthquake Increased to 294: Reconstruction Plan from the Government

The National Disaster Risk Management Unit (UNGRD) made a statement regarding the latest situation after the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that hit the country.

According to the statement, the number of people who lost their lives in the earthquake increased to 294, the number of injured increased to 3 thousand 935, and the number of missing increased to 320.

While the earthquake was effective in 448 towns in 15 provinces, it was reported that 54 thousand 8 families, that is, a total of 115 thousand 461 people, were affected by the disaster.

On the other hand, the government is preparing a restructuring plan. The plan will be prepared in line with the instructions of President Abelardo de la Espriella. Within the scope of the studies, coordination will be ensured between the National Disaster Risk Management Unit, the Ministry of Housing, businesses, local governments, public and private sector organizations, financial institutions and cooperation organizations.

Coordination of action and resources will be carried out through the "Miracle Fund" created by the government for the reconstruction of the affected areas.

According to UNGRD, as of yesterday, there were 256 aftershocks following the earthquake; of these, 17 had magnitudes greater than 3.0 and two had magnitudes greater than 4.0.

3 days of national mourning were declared

It was reported that a 3-day "national mourning" was declared for those who lost their lives in the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the country on August 10.

President de la Espriella, in his statement in the city of Pereira, where the most casualties occurred in the earthquake, said that rental support would be provided to families who lost their homes in the earthquake that affected various parts of the country.
