They evacuate the El Trampolín beach in Ceuta and transfer some 1,800 immigrants to reception centers

This morning, members of the National Police and the Civil Guard evacuated El Trampolín beach, where the majority of immigrants remaining in Ceuta since the mass crossing at the end of July were concentrated until today, and they have transferred some 1,800 of them to two of the new reception centers set up by the Government.

Some 1,200 sub-Saharans, escorted by security forces and bodies, have been directed on foot to the Loma Margarita resort, on the Caballería slope, where three large semi-open warehouses will provide a temporary roof to this group of potential asylees.

Another of the enabled spaces, to which another 500 people have moved, in this case of North African origin, is the Embolsamiento Parking, which this night dawned after a morning of strong wind with the tarps of the military tents on the ground, which are already being lifted without incident.

Already with the thousand sub-Saharans in the new center, the young Moroccans who have approached the center, which was not among the four announced on Monday by Migrations, have been prevented from entering.

The operation has been carried out without incident. The agents have urged people who have spent one more night in the camp to take their belongings before concentrating them at the beach accesses to then facilitate the transfer. Although there is no number of how many immigrants there may be on the beach, police sources have been estimating between 3,500 and 5,000 people for days, taking as reference the menus that have been distributed each day.

The head of Migration, Elma Saiz, has reported that 1,800 temporary reception places are already active. The minister announced last Monday that there would be 1,500 initial beds, but with the expectation that the number could reach 4,000. “This is obviously going to continue, and in the coming days we will be making more activations of resources,” the Government spokesperson said.

The priority objective of this action, according to sources from the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, is to “respond to the situation of people who were homeless in the area of ​​Trampolín beach and Loma Colmenar”, offering them an alternative accommodation and reception that allows them to no longer have to continue spending the night on public roads or on the beach itself.

The police deployment is part of the extraordinary device launched by the Government, in collaboration with third sector entities, such as Engloba or ACCEM; to reinforce the reception capacity in Ceuta, which has been experiencing a humanitarian emergency in its streets since more than 80,000 people crossed the border from Morocco 21 days ago.

Although the majority left Spain in the days following the avalanche, thousands of others decided to remain in its streets waiting to be welcomed. Among them, there are numerous groups of sub-Saharans, who come from countries that are usually granted international protection, and unaccompanied minors, who cannot be expelled summarily or immediately.
