During the early hours of this Sunday, the National Police made several arrests in Ceuta for alleged crimes of illegal possession of weapons, home invasion and sexual harassment, on a night also marked by two fights that left two injured, one of them with a knife, as reported by the Ceuta Police Headquarters.
Among those arrested is a migrant in an irregular situation detained around 1:00 a.m. for illegal possession of weapons. The agents seized a large machete, an extendable defense and a blunt object.
The Headquarters has also confirmed the arrest of several people for breaking and entering, although it has not yet specified the exact number of those arrested. During the night another arrest was made for an alleged crime of sexual harassment.
Aside from the arrests, the most serious incident of the early morning was recorded on Trampolín beach, where a migrant was seriously injured by a knife during a brawl in which several people participated. The victim had to be transferred to the University Hospital of Ceuta (HUCE), without any arrests being made related to these events.
Later, around 2:00 a.m., a second fight broke out in the vicinity of the Immigrant Temporary Stay Center (CETI). As a result of the fight, one person had to be evacuated by ambulance to the Loma Colmenar health center. According to the Police, the injured man had a blow to the head and injuries to one hand and was in a high state of intoxication.
On the other hand, the Fire Fighting and Rescue Service (SEIS) intervened in three incidents during the night. The first took place around 1:00 a.m. due to the fire of a container on Saturno Street, in the Zurrón neighborhood.
Hours later, around 2:45 a.m., firefighters responded to the burning of a vehicle in Los Rosales, near the old women's prison.
The last departure occurred at 6:30 a.m. due to a vegetation fire in the Arcos Quebrados area, near one of the main migrant settlements in the city. The first hypotheses point to a possible accidental combustion favored by the accumulation of waste and stubble in the place.
The early morning joins other episodes of incidents, fights and fires recorded in recent weeks in different parts of the city, coinciding with the migratory crisis that Ceuta has been going through since the end of July. This, despite the fact that the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, maintains that the people of Ceuta have a perception of "subjective insecurity."
Migrants dispersed next to a new settlement
On the other hand, in the new space enabled next to the old Los Rosales prison, the National Police has dispersed dozens of migrants who arrived in a hurry with the intention of accessing its interior, but who have been prevented from entering because it was already occupied.
Their intention was to access the tents, with the capacity to accommodate 864 people, but the National Police had to establish a security device because the facility already had its seats covered.
