Significant decline in the number of refugees in Saxony in the second quarter of 2026

In the second quarter of 2026, significantly fewer refugees arrived in Saxony than in the same period last year. From April to June, 810 people were registered in the Free State's reception facilities, as the state management announced. That was 343, around a third less than in the second quarter of 2025.

The number of newly arriving refugees had already fallen sharply. In the first quarter of 2026 (1,042 refugees), the state directorate also registered a decline of a third compared to the same period last year. In 2025 and 2024 the number was halved.

Deportations and departures at a similar level

There was a slight decrease in deportations of around eleven percent. A total of 219 people who were required to leave the country were repatriated, the majority of whom were rejected asylum seekers (183). The main target countries were Turkey, Georgia, Serbia, Pakistan and India.

In addition, 456 people left the country voluntarily - 13 more than in the same quarter of the previous year. This includes both self-financed trips and those that receive financial support. Most of the returnees were nationals of Syria, Türkiye, Venezuela, Russia and Georgia.
