Defense, Mariani (Leonardo): "Increased spending is an intelligent approach for security"

The gradual increase in defense spending, which Italy has planned in agreement with NATO, follows an intelligent approach that also aims at the safety of civilian life, allowing the economy to develop. This is what the CEO and general director of Leonardo, Lorenzo Mariani, states in response to a question on the dialectical comparison regarding the increase in spending on defense and security in Italy.

"Defense is always and must always be associated with security - states Mariani speaking to ANSA - Our systems are not just defense systems, but are defense systems that guarantee the safety of civil life and without this security there is no economic activity that can prosper".

Mariani also underlines that "the increase in expenditure that the Italian Government planned was extremely intelligent because it followed NATO's indication of rising first above 2% then above 3% and we are getting there.

There has been an excellent balance between specifically defense-oriented systems, therefore what in the jargon we could call pure armament, and more security-oriented systems, therefore cyber, drones and the like. It is an orientation towards collaboration which has also been favored by the approach of our institutional client, the Minister of Defence".
