Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan gave a message to the press after the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement Meeting

Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan made a statement to the press after the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense Strategic Political and Defense Committee Meeting held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.

Stating that a meeting planned for the institutionalization of the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement was already on their agenda, Fidan stated that they had an extraordinary meeting today due to the events developing in the equation of Yemen and Saudi Arabia.

Fidan emphasized that some issues related to institutionalization, such as the structure of the secretariat, the appointment and approval of the new secretary general, were discussed at the meeting and said, "There is a lot of work done for the institutionalization of the signed Mecca Defense Alliance Agreement. Thank God, we have come to the end of these works." he said.

Stating that they discussed what could be done to solve the problem between Yemen and Saudi Arabia peacefully and through dialogue, Fidan said, "Saudi Arabia has a very constructive approach to solving this problem. We had the opportunity to listen to him again. We shared some of our opinions." he said.

Fidan pointed out that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has a will on this issue and noted that they made some decisions as a reflection of this will.

Underlining that Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler and Chief of General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu also put forward very productive views on military, operational and technical issues, Fidan said, "What can be done institutionally, both militarily and technically? Where are we going? What can be done about our institutionalization in the Mecca Defense Alliance and the current problem area at hand? We discussed them. It was a productive day." made his assessment.
