Bones found on hillside in Taichung New Community, police collect DNA for identification

The bones of a man suspected to have been missing for nine years were found on a hillside in Taichung City's New Community. The Dongshi Police Station said it would conduct a DNA test to confirm the identity of the deceased.

A few days ago, people were doing land preparation work on the hillside next to No. 1 Kunnan Street, New Community, Taichung City, and found a white skeleton. After receiving the report, the Dongshi Police Station found the identity document of the suspected deceased, and a red rope hung on a tree nearby. It was initially determined that it was a man surnamed Wang who was reported missing in 2017. Yesterday, they further conducted a judicial examination and re-examination with the Taichung District Prosecutor's Office prosecutor and forensic doctor, and collected samples of the deceased's bones and teeth, and sent them for DNA testing to further confirm the identity.

At 3 pm on the 25th of this month, the Dongshi Police Station received a report from the public alleging that they found suspected human remains while preparing land on the hillside next to No. 1 Kunnan Street in the New Community. After receiving the report, the police immediately dispatched officers to the scene and notified the branch forensics personnel to conduct on-site inspections, and also requested relevant units to assist in follow-up disposal.

Forensic personnel found some clothes, shoes and suspected identification documents at the scene, as well as a red rope near the trees. The police investigated and found that the deceased was suspected to be a man named Wang (49th year) who was reported missing by his family in October 2017. The police immediately notified family members to come to the scene to help confirm the identity, and collected DNA samples from the family members in accordance with the law.

The investigation team and forensic personnel of the Dongshi Police Division yesterday conducted a judicial examination and re-examination together with prosecutors and forensic doctors from the Taichung District Prosecutor's Office. Some bones at the scene were missing, and animal bite marks were visible on some bones. No obvious signs of fractures or bone cracks were found. The police have collected bone and tooth samples from the deceased and sent them for DNA identification to further confirm the identity of the deceased.

The police stated that since the case involves a case of disappearance for many years, the police are concerned about the mood of the family. They will maintain a prudent attitude in the future, cooperate with judicial procedures to clarify the identity of the deceased and the cause of death, and handle it in accordance with the law after confirming the relevant results.
