AI-generated summary
The Arabian Horse Days and the Pride of Poland auction are cyclical events promoting the Polish breeding of pure-bred Arabian horses.
The Arabian Horse Days have been taking place in Janów Podlaski since Friday, culminating on Sunday evening with the Pride of Poland auction of Purebred Arabian Horses. 15 mares and one stallion will be put up for sale, all from state studs in Janów Podlaski, Michałów and Białka. The offer under number "0" also includes an embryo whose parents are the stallion Fajer and the mare Protekcja. He is sold together with a surrogate mare, Fortunatka, from the Michałów stud.
“Solid” offer
The National Center for Agricultural Support informs that the process of selecting horses and composing the auction offer of state studs is carried out, as every year, on the basis of market analyses, spring reviews and talks between stud farms lasting many weeks.
Anna Stojanowska, advisor to the general director of KOWR for breeding Arabian horses, explained that when choosing horses, the main priority is to secure one's own breeding so that the sale of animals does not negatively affect its continuation in stud farms.
On the other hand, we have market expectations, so we need to adapt to customer demand. For at least 20 years, the most expensive have been horses with show potential, i.e. beautiful horses with which you can compete at shows - she emphasized in an interview with PAP.
Janów Podlaski - as she added - also gathers breeders who are looking for "reliable mares" in order to build their breeding and stud farm on their basis. There is also a group of people who are looking for horses for possible use under saddle.
The expert does not expect any further price records at this year's auction. According to her, success will be the largest possible number of horses sold for amounts that will satisfy the stud farms.
This year's offering is solid. There are very good mares, the so-called measure. There may not be any big stars who would attract buyers willing to pay millions, but that's not the point. This race has already gone a bit too far and the bar has been set high. We are not able - and this is the wrong direction - to break price records every year, Stojanowska said.
The organizers expect buyers including: from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, as well as from the United States, Great Britain, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Slovenia.
High hopes for Poganinka and El Bella
The star of this year's auction is to be the 11-year-old chestnut mare Poganinka from the stud farm in Michałów. She is the daughter of the stallion El Omari and the mare Pentra, the Golden Junior Champion Mare from Białka in 2017 and the Silver European Senior Champion Mare in 2019.
The Michałów stud also put the chestnut mare El Bella up for sale. She is a two-year-old daughter of the popular Emirati sire Mutabahi Al Hawajer and El Bellisima, daughter of the famous Belgian-bred stallion Ascot DD.
The favorites also include horses from the stud farm in Janów Podlaski: the 9-year-old bay mare Pila and the 9-year-old stallion Erantis. The mare Ejna from the stud farm in Białka will also be auctioned.
Final of the National Purebred Arabian Horse Show
Sunday is the day of the finals of the National Purebred Arabian Horse Show. The best stallions and mares in their classes, selected in previous days, fight for the champion titles. RMF FM has patronage over the Polish Junior Mare Championships. The best mare here was Epiforana from Michałów.
This year, over 120 horses have been entered into the show, which are assessed by an international panel of judges, awarding points for five horse characteristics: type, head and neck, body, legs and movement. Special prizes will also be awarded, including: for the most beautiful mare of the show and the best racehorse.
The national championship is a verification of whether the Polish idea and breeding program is heading in the right direction. This year we have judges from Brazil, Saudi Arabia, the United States and Germany, so it is a cross-section of different tastes, views and perspectives on the Arabian horse - said Stojanowska.
There are also plenty of attractions after the weekend
On Monday, buyers will be able to bid on more horses during the Arabian Horse Summer Sale. This year, 22 mares and 3 stallions will be exhibited, coming from state studs and private breeding. Young breeding horses are usually auctioned at the Summer Sale, at lower prices than during the Pride of Poland.
