Scammers target WhatsApp

New generation cyber security threats targeting iPhone users continue to endanger the popular messaging application WhatsApp. Malware called Coruna, which exploits certain security vulnerabilities in Apple devices, causes users to infiltrate their accounts without their knowledge.

This software, which exploits system vulnerabilities, can gain authority on the device and take control of WhatsApp sessions. The fact that the process takes place in the background and without the user noticing increases the size of the threat. Malicious individuals who gain access to the account reach out to the user's contacts and request urgent money or a loan.

Experts state that updates are one of the most effective measures that can be taken against such attacks. Updating the operating system and applications to the latest version plays a critical role in closing known security vulnerabilities. In addition, it is recommended to activate two-step verification on the WhatsApp account, regularly check the list of connected devices, and confirm money requests from relatives with a phone call.
