Queen Margrethe hospitalized after blood pooling and dehydration

Margrethe was admitted on Sunday after she felt unwell. She is treated for both blood pooling in the hip region and for dehydration.

"Queen Margrethe is in good spirits and, under the circumstances, doing well," the court writes in a press release.

The illness means that Margrethe will miss Norway's King Harald's funeral on Wednesday. Several royal families from both the Nordic countries and other parts of the world are expected to participate.

Denmark's Queen Margrethe has been hospitalized a number of times earlier this year, among other things for blood pooling in her hip which is said to have occurred after a fall.

In May, she underwent heart surgery.

The queen was born in 1940 and is the daughter of Frederik IX of Denmark and Princess Ingrid of Sweden. Margrethe is the cousin of Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf. She has two sons, Frederik and Joachim.

In 2024, Queen Margrethe abdicated and handed over the throne to her eldest son, now Denmark's King Frederik X.
