The 28-year-old national athlete, who has many Turkish championships as well as world and European championships, also includes 3 world and 1 European third places in his career.
Asuman Çığlıoğlu, the world and European champion in his weight category for the last two years, continues to work with his coach Emrah Şahanoğlu to maintain his invincibility in the European Championship to be held in Macedonia in November.
Asuman Çığlıoğlu told the AA reporter that he has been interested in this sport since he was 13 years old.
Explaining that he started kickboxing by chance, the national athlete said, "I started kickboxing with my teacher Emrah. My brother started doing the sport first, and my father made him sign up. I was also bored at home on the weekends. My father wanted me to go too. 'You can spend time too.' He made me write. When I started I didn't know what kickboxing was. I was thinking about how a girl could do this branch. "After becoming the champion, I started to believe that girls can do this branch very well." he said.
Explaining that he achieved many degrees in national and international tournaments, Asuman said:
"I became the European champion for the first time in 2024. As soon as we returned from the championship, we started working on our shortcomings with my coach. We improved our system. I became the world champion in 2025 and the champion in the world cup held in Türkiye in 2026. I will represent our country in the European Championship on November 6-15. I am the last world champion of my weight class. I hope I will become the European Champion again. In the kickboxing branch, there is a European championship for 1 year and a world championship for 1 year. "I became the European champion in 2024 and the world champion in 2025. I aim to make the whole of Europe listen to our National Anthem again in the next European Championship."
"We expect a new European championship from him"
Coach Emrah Şahanoğlu said that Asuman has achieved great success by improving himself over the years.
Explaining that he has trained many athletes so far, Şahanoğlu said:
"Asuman has become the Turkish champion 16 times so far. He has won the European and world championships. We are the first and only athlete to win the world and European championship in the senior category in Kastamonu. He has not been defeated in the kickboxing branch since 2024. Now, we have the 2026 European Championship ahead of us. We want to continue our undefeatedness. We expect a new European championship from him. If our athlete enters the top 8 in the European Championship to be held in Macedonia, in 2027 "He will have the right to represent our country in the European Games to be held in Istanbul. I believe that he will get this quota with the championship. I expect the 2026 European Championship and 2027 European Games championship from him." he said.
Emphasizing that girls should be directed to combat sports, Şahanoğlu said, "Asuman became a role model for many of our sisters, especially in Kastamonu. We have many athletes who follow him. I recommend that girls especially take part in combat sports." he said.
