The diplomat added that Russia is open to dialogue with NATO, but a prerequisite for this is the alliance’s refusal of an aggressive anti-Russian course and taking into account the security interests of the Russian Federation.

NATO has never approached Moscow with proposals for a joint investigation into incidents involving drone crashes in European countries, accusing the Russian Federation without any evidence, said Vladislav Maslennikov, director of the European Affairs Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Russian Ambassador to Berlin Sergei Nechaev was summoned to the German Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, where he was protested in connection with the alleged involvement of Russian government agencies in the incident involving the attempted use of a drone loaded with explosives at Leipzig airport on the night of August 5, 2026.

“As usual, Russia was immediately blamed for what happened - unfoundedly, without any evidence. There were never any proposals to jointly look into the situation either. At the same time, the absence of appeals on such incidents from the alliance actually indirectly confirms, let’s say, the “difficulties” with the ability of member countries to substantiate their accusations against us,” Maslennikov told Izvestia.

The diplomat recalled that despite the complete freeze of the political dialogue at the initiative of Brussels, technical channels of communication between the parties still exist, but NATO does not use them.

“Emergency communication channels, including through the Russian Embassy in Belgium, are preserved. They are well known to the North Atlantic bloc. However, NATO members do not use them,” he emphasized.

The diplomat added that Russia has repeatedly stated its openness to dialogue with the alliance, but a prerequisite for this remains NATO’s refusal of an aggressive anti-Russian course and real consideration of the security interests of the Russian Federation.
