Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin called the opening of a road bridge across the Tumannaya River on the border with the DPRK a historic event.

The ceremony for completing the construction of a road bridge on the border with the DPRK takes place on Monday. Mishustin and Chairman of the DPRK Cabinet of Ministers Park Tae Son will take part in it via videoconference.

“Already in the spring of last year, we jointly launched the implementation of this ambitious project. And now – literally sixteen months later – we are witnessing a truly historic event,” Mishustin said during the ceremony.

He also noted that a checkpoint across the state border was built here in record time.

“It was designed taking into account the projected significant growth in freight and passenger traffic. Thanks to this, up to three hundred cars will be able to pass through it every day,” the chairman of the Russian government emphasized.

The Prime Minister also indicated that the access road connects to the UssUri federal highway. “It is part of the West – East international transport corridor, through which high-speed traffic will run from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok,” Mishustin noted.

In addition, the head of the Russian Cabinet expressed confidence that the expansion of border transport infrastructure will give a powerful impetus to the further development of trade, economic, scientific, technological and cultural cooperation between Russia and the DPRK.

“We are increasing logistics capacity in the Far East. We are creating additional opportunities to strengthen interregional ties and industrial cooperation. This means new jobs will appear. The tourism industry will have good prospects,” Mishustin noted.

The agreement on the implementation of the project was signed in 2024 in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chairman of State Affairs of the DPRK Kim Jong-un. In April 2025, Mishustin and Park Tae-sung started construction work.
