Electric vehicles are often marketed as an environmentally friendly alternative to internal combustion engine vehicles.
Considering the cycle from assembly to recycling, electric cars can hardly be called more environmentally friendly transport. This was stated to TASS by Konstantin Krylov, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Head of the Department of Mechanization of Environmental Management and Machine Repair of Tver State Technical University.
The study of the impact of electromobility on nature continues. If it is confirmed that eco-friendly transport causes more damage than cars with internal combustion engines (ICE), then they will not become market leaders, the expert emphasized. Electric cars are perceived as harmless machines because they do not have an exhaust pipe and do not require gasoline or diesel. But it is incorrect to assess safety only by this parameter, the scientist explains.
Krylov noted that when switching to electric traction, the volume of greenhouse gases and hazardous substances in the atmosphere does not decrease. “Air pollution no longer occurs from electric vehicles, but from thermal power plants that produce energy to charge car batteries,” explains the specialist.
According to him, in a number of regions where electricity is produced by burning coal or oil, the transition to electric vehicles has virtually no environmental effect. Here, emissions from power generation are often higher than when using gasoline.
The production of electric vehicles, especially batteries containing highly toxic elements, also causes significant damage to nature. Everything is aggravated by their very expensive, complex and energy-consuming disposal, which only increases the risks for nature.
At the same time, the scientist is confident that internal combustion engines will not disappear. He believes that over time they will begin to comply with increasingly stringent environmental regulations around the world by saving fuel and switching to alternative fuels.

Alternative car imports to Russia reached a record 66 percent of the total volume, amounting to 22.2 thousand cars in September. The main reasons were the expansion of domestic production and the reduction of official supplies.

At the 108th kilometer of the Moscow Ring Road, a taxi car hit a moose. The animal died on the spot; no other casualties were reported. Experts reminded drivers of the rules of behavior when meeting wild animals on the road.

In Russia, over the year, winter tires in the mass segment have risen in price by 5–10%, and premium models by 5–6%. The price increase is due to a shift in demand towards larger wheel sizes due to new Chinese crossovers.

In the second quarter of 2026, banks issued loans for the purchase of used cars in the amount of 136 billion rubles, which is 24% more year-on-year. The number of issued loans exceeded 94 thousand. The share of used cars in issuances increased from 25% to 31% by August, and the average price of such cars is growing much slower than new ones - by 1.2% versus 8% per year.

From March 1, 2027, when passing the theoretical driving license exam in Russia, candidates will be photographed and audio and video recording equipment will be installed in classrooms to combat dummies and assess the behavior of future drivers.

Exeed brand cars topped the anti-theft rating in Russia for the first nine months of 2026, accounting for 17% of the total number of cases. The total number of thefts increased by 41%, with half of all incidents recorded in Moscow.
