Elif Balıkçı, the mother of Büşra Balıkçı, who reported her missing in the Divriği district of Sivas, gave contradictory statements in her first statement, and changed her statement by stating that she felt remorse. Suspect Elif Balıkçı, whose statement was taken again within the scope of the investigation carried out by the Divriği Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, said that she gave a false statement under the pressure of her husband.
'My wife and sister-in-law threatened me'
Mother Elif Balıkçı, who stated in her statement that she was constantly subjected to violence by her husband, whom she married when she was 15, explained what happened on the day of the incident with the following words:
"The statement I gave before at the prosecutor's office that veterinarian Mehmet Ç. came to our tent and kidnapped my daughter is a complete lie. I gave this statement out of fear of my husband Yusuf Balıkçı and my sister-in-law R.B.. My husband asked me to say that a car came and took the child away, he described Mehmet Ç.'s appearance and car to me and forced me to give a statement to this effect."
'I SAW YOU TAKE MY DAUGHTER OUT OF THE TENT'
Elif Balıkçı stated that she and her husband vaccinated the sheep on the day of the incident, September 10, 2026, and that the children were sleeping in the evening, and described what happened at night as follows:
"When I looked at the children in the tent at night, I saw my husband, Yusuf Balıkçı, hitting my daughter Büşra hard on the back. When I asked what you were doing, he said, 'I am hitting her back so that the child sleeps.' Then my wife told me to take the other crippled goat to my sister-in-law's tent. When I returned, I saw my husband taking my daughter Büşra in his arms and taking her towards the area where the willow trees were at the top of the tent. I saw Büşra moving in my husband's arms."
'THEY WANTED US TO LIE TO THE GENDARMERIE'
Stating that her husband claimed that he did not know about the child when he came back, Elif Balıkçı said, "Before the gendarmerie came, my husband asked me to tell the gendarmerie to call at 22.15. My sister-in-law R.B. also warned me, 'If the gendarmerie asks you questions, say that I slept and the child was not in the bed when I woke up.' And I made a false statement to the gendarmerie in this way."
BLOODY DRESSES WERE FOUND DURING SEARCHES
Elif Balıkçı, who stated that they came across the painful truth during the searches carried out with relatives the next day, said: "While searching, we found my daughter's red T-shirt and pink bodysuit, wrapped in a cloth and tied to a rope. When we approached the clothes, my husband's brother, Mehmet R.B., said, 'Don't approach, stay away, the bear has kidnapped and eaten your child.' The snaps of my child's bodysuit were open and the bodysuit was torn. "When we saw the clothes, we informed the gendarmerie," he said.
'I COULD NOT EXPLAIN MY HUSBAND BECAUSE OF MY FEAR, I AM COMPLAINING'
Elif Balıkçı, who stated that she heard her husband telling other family members where he hid the child's body while waiting for the gendarmerie, completed her statement with the following words:
"My husband Yusuf Balıkçı told his brother M.R.B. and my sister-in-law R.B. where he took my daughter Büşra. He said that he took her to the stony area above our tent, about 1-2 kilometers away, and that he put the stones side by side there, did not put soil or stones on them, and left her that way. I regret not telling the truth from the beginning. I couldn't tell because of my husband's fear. He killed my daughter Büşra Balıkçı and took her to the field. "I am complaining and suing my husband, Yusuf Balıkçı, who left him among the stones."
