«Il est difficile de dire que nous vivons dans un monde enthousiasmant», s'est-il borné à dire, en évoquant le «retour des crises en Europe». Emmanuel Macron, qui quittera l'Élysée en mai prochain, s'est aussi livré à un exercice d'autosatisfaction sur le bilan de sa politique économique et sociale depuis 2017.

Il a vanté un «modèle énergétique fort, le plus décarboné d'Europe», «plus de deux millions et demi d'emplois recréés» ou encore le pays «qui crée le plus de start-up», «qui crée des data centers». «C'est ça, investir. Ce n'est pas un gros mot, investir (..) C'est de dire, je crois plus dans demain que dans aujourd'hui», a insisté Emmanuel Macron. «Au moment où des élites politiques, économiques, où des grands groupes, des start-up, des ETI (entreprises de taille intermédiaire), se mettent à se dire “demain est terrible et je n'y crois plus”, elles ont déjà perdu», a-t-il martelé, réitérant son appel à ne «pas céder au défaitisme».

Tirant le parallèle avec la France, il a concédé : «Oui, on a des faiblesses. Nos finances publiques, un modèle social qui n'est pas assez financé». «Ça ne veut pas dire pour autant qu'il faut rester couché et qu'on est fichu. Il faut se battre, il faut repartir avec de l'énergie». «Est-ce qu'on n'a pas essayé de se battre ces dernières années là-dessus ? Oui. Est-ce qu'on a gagné toutes les batailles ? Non. Mais il faut repartir. Il faut convaincre. Il faut montrer qu'il faut le moderniser. Qu'un pays qui vieillit, c'est aussi une chance», a-t-il dit, un an après la suspension de l'emblématique réforme des retraites.
