Hiker found dead on Piz Starlex in South Tyrol

Search and night operations by rescuers of the Alto Adige Alpine Rescue on Piz Starlex (3,075 metres), above Taufers in Val Monastero: a local inhabitant was found dead during the night. The man had been reported missing since Sunday, the last telephone contact from the top of Piz Starlex was around 1pm.

As he still hadn't returned shortly after 10pm, a search was launched via the regional emergency call centre. At 11.44pm the rescue teams found the missing person with the help of a drone near path number 4, at around 2,600 meters above sea level, in difficult terrain. The hypothesis is that the man would have been struck by lightning during his descent. Rescuers recovered the body and took it downstream.

Approximately 40 rescuers from the Cnsas mountain rescue service in Tubre, the Guardia di Finanza mountain rescue service in Silandro, the Tubre volunteer firefighters and the Prato mountain rescue service with the district drone participated in the operation.
