Aggravated fraud operation in 19 provinces based in Eskişehir: 90 detentions

In the operation carried out in 19 provinces, centered in Eskişehir, 90 suspects who were alleged to have committed fraud under the pretext of "internet infrastructure change" by introducing themselves as representatives of corporate internet and communication companies were caught.

In the study carried out by the Provincial Police Department Public Order Branch Fraud Bureau teams under the coordination of Eskişehir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was claimed that the suspects defrauded 801 people of approximately 116 million liras using this method. Within the scope of the investigation, a simultaneous operation was organized in 19 provinces, centered in Eskişehir.

While 90 suspects were caught during the operation, it was learned that the procedures regarding the suspects were continuing.

It was determined that the suspects told citizens that the internet infrastructure would change across the country, existing modems could not be used and internet services would be cut off in a short time, a mandatory infrastructure transition would be made, and a discount would be applied to internet bills if a new modem was purchased.

It was determined that the suspects directed citizens to buy modems by stating that their internet bills would increase if the modem was not changed.

In the police study, it was determined that the suspects sold modems to 801 victims across the country using this method, that most of the modems sent were not compatible with the existing internet infrastructure and that the promised internet bill discounts were not applied.

It was determined that the victims sent approximately 116 million lira to the accounts belonging to the suspects.

Thereupon, 90 suspects, including managers of companies where fraudulent activities were organized, were caught in the operation carried out simultaneously in Istanbul, Kocaeli, Bursa, Çanakkale, Muğla, Düzce, Zonguldak, Bolu, Karabük, Erzurum, Kars, Ankara, Antalya, Adana, Kahramanmaraş, Hatay, Afyonkarahisar and Yozgat, centered in Eskişehir.

Within the scope of the study, the bank and crypto asset accounts of many suspects and 13 companies, as well as 5 cars, 1 flat, 1 duplex villa and 1 land, which were considered to have been purchased with the income obtained from fraud, were seized.

It was learned that the suspects' procedures at the police station are continuing.
