Explosion in a school in Kabul: 35 injured children hospitalized at the Emergency center

The Emergency surgical center in Kabul received 35 injured people, all children aged between 10 and 14, following an explosion that occurred in a school in the Dasht-e-Barchi neighbourhood: this is what the humanitarian organization announced in a statement. The episode, specifies the note, dates back to late yesterday afternoon, and occurred when the children were leaving the affected school.

"Around 6pm yesterday, we were warned that there had been an accident and that a large number of patients would be transferred to our facilities. We only learned later that it was an explosion and that all the patients were children. They were all hit by shrapnel and three of them needed urgent surgical treatment. We don't know the causes of what happened", explained Dejan Panic, Country Director of Emergency in Afghanistan. "Although there has been a strong decrease in this type of event in Afghanistan since 2021, Emergency hospitals continue to receive injured people," he added.

The humanitarian organization is present in Afghanistan with the Surgical Center for War Victims in Kabul, the Surgical Center for War Victims in Lashkar-gah (Helmand), the Surgical Center, the Pediatric Center and the Maternity Center in Anabah (Panshir Valley) and a network of over 30 first aid posts and primary health centers. Since 1999 it has treated over 8.5 million people in a country that today has more than 48 million inhabitants.
