Fish establishment closed in Fortaleza for selling panga as tilapia

A fish establishment was closed after the Agricultural Defense Agency of the State of Ceará (Adagri) and the Civil Police discovered that the place was selling panga fish as if they were tilapia. The inspection took place this Tuesday (8), in the Alto da Balança neighborhood, in Fortaleza. More than 16 tons of fish were seized in the action and the owner of the establishment was arrested.

Panga is a fish of Asian origin, known for its ease of farming and low price. According to the Civil Police, the establishment inspected sold the panga as tilapia because this fish has a higher price. The food was sold with an adulterated label, cut into fillets, without skin, therefore, there were no external marks to identify it as panga.
