Policy experts from government, parliament, and academia gather to discuss deepening strategic partnership

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kang Seong-cheol = The Korea Foundation (KF, Chairman Song Do-do) announced on the 7th that it will hold the '2026 Brussels Korea Forum' to explore various cooperation between Korea and the European Union (EU) at NH Eui Berlemont Hotel in Brussels, Belgium on the 8th.

This is an event in collaboration with the Center for Security and Diplomacy Strategy at the Free University of Brussels, a leading research institute in the field of diplomacy and security in Belgium. At this university, the 'KF-VUB Korea Chair', supported by KF, has been established and serves as a key base for Korea-related policy research and policy public diplomacy in Europe.

This forum was prepared to solidify the strategic partnership between Korea and the European Union (EU) amidst rapidly changing global geopolitical crises.

In particular, we plan to explore practical ways to cooperate on key issues such as economic security, advanced technology, Indo-Pacific strategy, and trade.

The event will be divided into a public forum and a private roundtable, and will feature key policy experts from Korea and Europe as well as officials from the government, parliament, and academia.

The public forum begins with a welcome speech by Luis Simon, Director of the Center for Security and Diplomacy Strategy at the Free University of Brussels, and an opening speech by KF Chairman Song Gi-do. Next, two open sessions will address key policy challenges in Korea-Europe cooperation.

Specifically, under the theme of 'Korea-Europe economic security and technological cooperation', supply chain stability, advanced technology cooperation, and energy transition will be discussed.

Another session will explore ways to cooperate to respond to geopolitical crises and protect the rules-based international order under the theme of 'Korea-Europe Indo-Pacific and global security cooperation'.

At the closed roundtable, the Korean delegation and major European policy officials will continue to discuss the current issues and practical policy cooperation tasks raised in the open session under the theme of 'Korea-Europe security, trade, and economic relations'.

Chairman Song Do-do said, "This forum is a diplomatic platform to discuss in-depth global issues shared by Korea and Europe in order to support the Korean government's national agenda," and added, "KF will continue to strengthen cooperation with major policy research institutes and high-level expert networks in Europe and contribute to solidifying the Korea-EU strategic partnership."
