Zelenskyy plans to meet Trump to discuss winter air defense
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he hopes to meet US President Donald Trump later in September to discuss an additional air defense package for the winter.
Russia has intensified air attacks on Ukraine in recent days, aligning with previous years in the conflict where Moscow has stepped up assaults on civilian and fuel infrastructure ahead of the cold winter months.
He also announced his desire for truce talks with both Moscow and mediators, such as the US, this month after a diplomatic push over the weekend.
Poland's Lublin Airport reopens after military operation
Lublin Airport in Poland resumed operations after a temporary closure linked to a military operation, the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PANSA) said on Tuesday.
The airport had temporarily suspended flights after the Polish Air Force launched preventive operations in reportedly response to Russian missile strikes on neighboring Ukraine, the Polish military said.
"We inform you that no violations of airspace were recorded," the military said in a post on X.
Britain commits £100-million air defense package for Ukraine
The UK will commit £100 million ($135 million, €116 million) to an air defense package for Ukraine, the government said on Tuesday.
The defense package would include Patriot air defence system, the only weapon in Kyiv's arsenal that can take on Russia's Iskander-M and Kinzhal ballistic missiles, but ammunition for the system is running short. It will also include large-caliber artillery rounds and drones to help fend off Russian attacks.
"We will stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine until they win. Ukraine's frontline is the frontline for freedom everywhere and our support will not waver," UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting said.
The announcement comes ahead of Tuesday's Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting which comprises around 50 countries providing military support to Kyiv.
The meeting will be co-chaired by Streeting and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
Two killed, 10 injured in Russian attack on Kyiv
Two people were killed and at least 10 injured in overnight drone and missile strikes on Kyiv by Russia, Ukrainian authorities said on Tuesday.
At least five capital districts reported damages, with civilian infrastructure hit at 16 locations.
Residents had to be rescued from damaged buildings in the capital, while some people also were trapped in a five-story residential building in the Solomianskyi district
The strikes followed a weekend pause during a visit to Kyiv and Moscow by US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff.
Meanwhile, one person was killed in the Russian town of Starodub in the border area of Bryansk region in a Ukrainian attack, authorities said.
Ukraine's prosecutor general resigns amid graft probe
Ukraine's Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko resigned late on Monday, days after anti-corruption agencies raided his office.
"This is a political decision. And I made it consciously," Kravchenko posted on Telegram.
"I do not want the position of prosecutor general to be used as an instrument of political confrontation."
Ukrainian authorities said they had uncovered a network allegedly led by an official in the Prosecutor General's Office that took bribes to protect fraudulent call centers and laundered millions of dollars.
Kravchenko denied involvement, calling the allegations "completely unsubstantiated."
His resignation comes amid a series of corruption scandals involving senior Ukrainian officials as Kyiv continues its war against Russia.

Kyiv authorities said air defenses were activated and urged residents to seek shelter after reporting a missile attack.
Buildings were hit in Kyiv and the cities of Boryspil and Fastiv, according to official reports.
"A fire broke out in garages and cars in the Podilskyi district. The threat continues. We urge you to take shelter," Kyiv's Military Administration posted on Telegram.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a pause in strikes to coincide with a visit to Moscow and Kyiv by US President Donald Trump's envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Russian President Vladimir Putin then made a similar announcement to facilitate the talks as the envoys traveled to Kyiv.
