In order to enhance Chiayi citizens' awareness of disaster prevention and strengthen the city's disaster prevention resilience, the Chiayi City Government held the "National Disaster Prevention Day - Earthquake Knows, I'm Ready!" promotion event at the Central Plaza today, attracting a large number of parents and children to actively participate. It is expected that through educational and entertaining disaster prevention experiences, interactive challenges and educational promotions, disaster prevention and relief knowledge can be easily integrated into life, thereby enhancing the people's resilience.

Mayor Huang Minhui attended the event today and said that although there are no active faults in Chiayi City, it is adjacent to five active faults including Meishan, Jiuxiongkeng, Dajianshan, Chukou and Getagliao. The risk of earthquakes cannot be ignored. She reminded the public to take measures to fix large furniture at home and prevent it from falling. Although natural disasters are inevitable, through the joint efforts of the police and firefighting teams and citizens, regular preparations and correct contingency concepts can be used to minimize the impact of injuries.

Chiayi City Fire Chief Guo Lichang said that the fire department has long been promoting the three steps of "get down, cover, and hold on" for earthquake evacuation in all walks of life, and promotes the common sense of preparing disaster prevention kits and fixing large furniture, hoping to internalize disaster prevention into daily habits. Chiayi City’s fire hydrants are currently fully deployed and inspected regularly every month. Each team can quickly arrive at the fire scene within 5 minutes on average.

Today's event combines a variety of disaster prevention publicity booths to allow the public to learn disaster prevention knowledge such as earthquake evacuation and emergency response through drama performances, fun challenges and practical experiences. It also arranges a display of disaster prevention personnel training results to let the public understand the important role of disaster prevention personnel in family and community disaster prevention. It also conducts publicity for the Taiwan Community Emergency Response Team (T-CERT), promotes the concepts of enterprise disaster prevention resilience and operational continuity, and encourages the government, communities and enterprises to jointly invest in disaster prevention work.

The Fire Department stated that it continues to promote disaster prevention education and preparation work, and encourages citizens to prepare emergency evacuation kits, secure large furniture, reserve three days of drinking water and food, and memorize the three steps to save life in an earthquake: "get down, cover, and hold on." Through the "National Disaster Prevention Day" promotion, it gathers the national disaster prevention force and drives disaster prevention awareness deep into families and communities.
