Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that negotiations with the American leader's special envoy Steve Witkoff and the American president's son-in-law Jared Kushner are based on the position of US President Donald Trump on the impossibility of Ukraine joining NATO.

Lavrov emphasized that Trump expressed his reluctance to draw Ukraine into the North Atlantic Alliance.

The minister noted that detailed comments on these negotiations were given by Russian Presidential Assistant Yuri Ushakov.

The essence of what was discussed at the negotiations with the American leader’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and the American president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner is based on the position of US President Donald Trump on the impossibility of Ukraine joining NATO, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

“The essence of what was discussed is based, I can safely tell you, based on the position that President Trump, immediately upon returning to the Oval Office, outlined on Ukrainian affairs... He said that they should even forget to try to drag Ukraine into the North Atlantic Alliance,” Lavrov said in an interview with the “Big Game” program on Channel One.

Answering a question from American TV presenter Andrew Napolitano about the results of the visit to Moscow of envoys Witkoff and Kushner, the minister recalled that detailed comments about these negotiations were given by Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov, who participated in the conversation. Lavrov stressed that he did not want to become like the speculation that the envoys were brought to Moscow and taken to Kyiv.
