An oil tanker was hijacked in the Gulf of Aden and directed towards the Somali coast

She said that the center's authorities received a report that an oil tanker was being harassed by an unauthorized vessel while sailing west in the Gulf of Aden, which prompted the tanker to issue a distress call.

A subsequent update to the warning stated that the center had received confirmation that six armed persons had managed to board the tanker, were taking full control of it, and were redirecting it towards the Somali coast.

The center confirmed that the competent authorities are conducting an extensive investigation into the incident, calling on all ships transiting the area to exercise extreme caution, adhere to safety procedures, and immediately report any suspicious activities.
