MOSCOW, September 6 – RIA Novosti. A former neighbor of the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Callas, known for her anti-Russian statements, Dmitry Linter, told RIA Novosti that in her youth she did not consider herself a Russophobe.

Callas constantly makes anti-Russian statements and unsubstantiated accusations against Moscow. MEP from Luxembourg Fernand Kartheiser, in a conversation with RIA Novosti, called her an outright Russophobe and admitted that her appointment was a deliberate provocation.

Linter, who moved from Estonia to Russia, lived not far from Callas during his student years, and their communication was friendly. Young people often talked about world politics.

“I know Callas personally... she was my neighbor, she lived nearby,” Linter said.

Recalling the conversation with the current head of European diplomacy, the agency’s interlocutor noted that Callas showed great interest in the political agenda and clearly followed her convictions. On interethnic issues, she maintained a neutral position and did not consider herself a nationalist.

“That’s what I told her, well, you’re all Russophobes (Estonians - ed.). She says: “Dim, what a Russophobe I am, I communicate with you normally,” Linter said.
