Panthers dominate Wests Tigers in NRL match with strong defence and attack

The Wests Tigers have had a couple of moments in that half.

But the Panthers defence is almost as good as their attack - and that's a scary prospect given how potent their attack is.

The Panthers have run in five tries, the look dangerous every time they move the ball to the left side of their attack.

This could be anything.

The Panthers well on the way to recording another minor premiership.

The Wests Tigers move the ball to the left side straight away, but Brian To'o and four of his mates come across, swarming like ants pouring out of a disturbed nest to bundle the Tigers over the sideline and deny them a chance of scoring against 12 men.

Brilliant defence.

There are five Panthers there to make that tackle. It's remarkable.

Oh the Panthers are not happy about this.

The Wests Tigers get a penalty for not clearing the ruck, but in the midst of that Thomas Jenkins got smashed on the schnoz with a vicious elbow.

The Tigers take the tap quickly and Cole is there, not letting him go 10 so is sin binned.

The Panthers want to challenge for foul play but the referee says no because the tap has already been taken!

Incredible.

Jahreem Bula gets on the outside of his marker and pins the ears back over on the left side.

He drives towards the line but there are four Panthers players there, Dylan Edwards among them, to halt the fullback in his tracks.

Great defence.

Thomas Jenkins breaks down the left side now from deep inside his own half.

The defence is absolutely nowhere - Jeral Skelton came in from the sideline to make a big shot on Casey McLean and was made to look very silly indeed.

Jenkins plays the ball inside to Dylan Edwards and he scores under the posts.

Too easy for the Panthers and the Wests Tigers are on their way to another hiding at the hands of the Panthers this season - they lost 68-0 earlier in the year.

Cleary kicks the goal and it's 26-0.

And Thomas Jenkins has a second to put him level with Alex Johnston at the top of the try-scoring charts with 30 for the season.

A brilliant break from Liam Martin, who just blasted past the Wests Tigers defence, Jarome Luai and Api Koroisau caught flat footed by the outside forward.

The Panthers flood forward and not even the best defences in the land are able to organise themselves when the Panthers move the ball like that - and the Tigers are far from the best defence in the land.

The ball goes to Jenkins on the left, and he puts his body outside the sideline and dots the ball down with his right hand to score.

The kick from Cleary hits the post and goes out, so it's 20-0.

But it's a dominant 20-0 as well.

The Tigers had all the pressure, all the territory there - and ended up getting impatient.

Jarome Luai kicked through on the second, perhaps trying to catch his old teammates out, but it's overcooked and then Solomone Saukuru tackles Dylan Edwards off the ball to give away a penalty.

The Tigers are starting to flex here.

Jahrome Luai is starting to cook, coming within in inch of the line on the left.

The Panthers are under pressure and give away two set restarts as the Tigers come left again, and then right.

That is remarkable!

Jahream Bula comes across and takes out his legs like he's playing soccer, but Jenkins twists himself onto his back to ride the tackle, spins and slams the ball down with his back to the try line while still in the air.

Incredible finish.

A good left side shift from the Panthers of the sort they have been doing all year and it was oh so easy for them to get across.

The kick is missed so it will remain 16-0.

Now it's Api Koroisau who doesn't clear the ruck and gives away another penalty.

Two penalties from two of the team's stars, both avoidable - it's just not really good enough.

Jarome Luai comes in high on his former teammate, Dylan Edwards, and gives away a soft penalty that the Panthers will accept to take the ball up to beyond half way.

Casey McLean ghosts over on the short side and scores from dummy half.

That defence is embarrassing for the Tigers - it's a perennial problem for them, but goodness me, the lack of progress in that regard is just awful.

Skelton took half a step back, Jock Madden went the wrong way and Junior Tupou just wasn't anywhere.

That space gave the Origin centre the sniff of the line that he needed, the three humbled Tigers now all looking at each other for someone to pin the blame on.

It all came from a forward pass from Jahream Bula as the Tigers tried to get out of their defensive end.

They didn't, and they were punished for it.

Liam Henry comes very close to spinning and reaching over the line, but Jahream Bula did brilliantly to slide across and keep the ball from touching the white paint.

Junior Tupou has rushed in and hit Luke Garner uppish.

It looked incredibly dramatic in real time and lots of people rushed in to make sure everyone was OK, but it's not head contact, just a very solid shot that was a bit high and it's a penalty only.

The Panthers have their first try!

Liam Martin burst into the backfield after a delayed pass from Nathan Cleary.

Martin draws the fullback, looks up and passes wide to To'o.

Jahream Bula lined him up and managed to make contact, but To'o to was to'o strong and slams the ball down over the Tigers fullback.

The kick is over from the sideline, and the Panthers lead 6-0.

Api Koroisau thinks he's forced an error here in the ball carry.

However, the Panthers challenge immediately.

It's early to use the challenge, that's for sure - but it's valid.

Koroisau has got his hand in there.

He's not happy about it, but it's a Panthers penalty as a result.
