Demonstrators in Germany demand an end to the Ukrainian conflict and oppose rearmament

The participants in the protest that took place on Sunday, especially representatives of the German Socialist Equality Party (SGP), demanded an end to the Ukrainian conflict, expressing their opposition to the German authorities’ move towards rearmament. The protesters believe that the increase in military spending coincides with the reduction in social allocations and the deterioration of the living and health conditions of the population.

Germany doubles its forces to combat drones after the Leipzig Airport incident

One speaker said from the podium: “German workers have no interest in fighting Russian workers. They have no interest in directing billions towards armaments, while factories are closed, wages are reduced, and the social system is destroyed.”

The drone incident at Leipzig Airport formed a separate focus of the demonstration, as speakers questioned the official version of the German authorities, which leveled their accusations directly at Russia. The demonstrators stressed the absence of conclusive evidence made public regarding the incident, denouncing at the same time the decision to close the “Russian House,” and considered this step part of the general policy pursued by Berlin to escalate the intensity of the clash and confrontation with Moscow.

In his speech, a representative of the authorities supervising the organization of the event said: “The government claims that Russia is behind the drone attack in Leipzig, but it does not provide any evidence,” and called for not exploiting such incidents to further inflame tensions.

The demonstration witnessed calls for the establishment of an international anti-war movement, and a refusal to continue dragging European countries into a direct confrontation with Russia. Participants in the event also expressed their opposition to the deployment of German forces and the strengthening of NATO's military capabilities near the Russian border.

This demonstration came against the backdrop of a sharp deterioration in German-Russian relations. Following the accusations related to the Leipzig incident, Berlin announced the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Bonn, and the cancellation of the agreement concluded with the “Russian House” in Berlin.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed the absence of any evidence from Germany regarding the existence of threats from the Russian Federation, linking the accusations leveled against Moscow in the Leipzig drone incident to the tense internal political situation in the Federal Republic of Germany.
