False bomb alert on two flights headed to Rome, fighters took off

Air Force fighters also took to the skies to escort the two planes arriving at Fiumicino this morning after reports of the presence of explosive devices on board, which later turned out to be fake.

According to what has been learned from investigative sources, the alarm was triggered by an anonymous email and at the moment no links have emerged with similar episodes that occurred in other European cities.

The matter is being investigated by the Polaria and the postal police.

The bomb threat, which later turned out to be false, involved two Ryanair flights, the one from Lisbon, which landed around 9.40am, and the one from Dublin which landed at 10.44am. As per procedure, security checks on aircraft, passengers and baggage and clean-up operations by the bomb squad began.

The police operations ended shortly after midday, with negative results.
