The family had their house robbed less than three weeks ago, which generated a feeling of helplessness and motivated action during the new theft incident.
A family came together to chase and arrest a man who was trying to escape after stealing copper wires from a house, this Friday afternoon (2), in Uberlândia, in the Triângulo Mineiro. Identified as Jonathan Dias de Oliveira, aged 34, the suspect jumped out of the moving family car and jumped over walls and roofs of neighboring properties during his escape.
During his escape, according to the Military Police (PM), he also entered another residence and stole a box with semi-jewelry. The suspect was arrested after Marco Tulio da Silva, 18, son of Ana Carolina Silva and Tierry Deneus, managed to reach him on a roof. During the chase, a tile broke, and the two fell.
“I’m sure he’ll never enter my house again,” said Ana.

The chase began when a resident realized that Jonathan had entered the family home, in the Santa Mônica neighborhood, to steal cables from a solar energy system. She informed Ana Carolina and Tierry, who went after the suspect.
Tierry took the car and helped look for the suspect. When they found him, Ana Carolina managed to hold him and put him inside the vehicle to take him to the police.
The attempt to take him to the police, however, was short-lived. During the journey, Jonathan jumped out of the car while it was still moving and ran into a vacant lot.
The family called the Military Police (PM) and continued to follow the suspect. Meanwhile, neighbors indicated where he was fleeing.

Thief stole jewelry while escaping
Jonathan continued jumping over the walls of different properties. During his escape, according to the PM, he entered another house and found a box with semi-jewelry. The suspect took the objects and fled across the rooftops.
Ana then had an idea to try to stop the escape.
"My son studies close to where the chase was taking place. I went to the school and asked them to release him. When he came out I told him that a thief had entered the house and we chased him again", he recalled.
To prevent the escape, Marco Túlio chased Jonathan across the roofs of the houses until a tile broke. The two fell and, shortly after, the police arrived and arrested the suspect. Nobody was injured.
When searching Jonathan, the military found the jewelry stolen during the escape. The copper wiring was also restored.
According to the PM, Jonathan even tried to pretend to be his own brother to make identification difficult. Therefore, in addition to the crimes of theft and damage, he was also arrested for false identity.
Jonathan was taken to the Professor Jacy de Assis Prison.
‘Less than three weeks ago my house had already been robbed. This time I said I wouldn't accept it because it left me with that feeling of impotence. What we’re going to do now is reinforce the security of the house, but I know he won’t come back here again’, concluded Ana.
Police advise victims not to react
According to military police officer Gabriel Oliveira, the recommendation is never to react to assaults, robberies or robberies, even when the victim believes they are in front of a fake weapon.
"The recommendation is 100% never to react in these cases. Even if you recognize that it is a simulacrum [fake weapon], it could be that he [assailant] is also armed in another way. The police recommendation is always, if it actually happens, to contact us so that they can carry out the search and recover the lost property", he stated.
