FBI chief Kash Patel is engaged

“I called in the justice system,” writes country singer Alexis Wilkins on X. The joke had to be there. She also posted the emojis💍❤️ and a photo with her partner, FBI Director Kash Patel. In the black and white picture they both laugh, Wilkins presents her ringed hand. Now everyone should understand it: FBI chief Patel and his partner Wilkins are engaged.

Now one could smile tiredly at the joke that Wilkins had called in the justice system. Justice. FBI chief. Engagement. Ha-Ha. In fact, the joke has a - probably unintentional - level, after all, Wilkins has already benefited from her close relationship with the judiciary in recent years.

According to US media reports, Patel and Wilkins have been a couple since at least 2023, so they knew each other before Patel was sworn in in 2025. Since then, the two have enjoyed the - well - special benefits of the new job.

When Wilkins sang the national anthem at a wrestling event in 2025, Patel took an FBI plane specifically to see his partner on stage. This obviously had little to do with official matters. Patel still pushed back against the reports.

But it went even further: This March, the New York Times reported that Patel routinely assigned special forces to accompany his girlfriend on private trips. Agents from an FBI special unit were present at a charity event in California in January where the country singer performed. Officials then escorted them around 200 kilometers to an airport.

Patel has also strengthened the field office in Nashville, where Wilkins lives, according to the New York Times. A four-person special tactical unit, known as Swat in English, and two vehicles are deployed to protect them around the clock. This is unusual: the partners of former FBI directors did not receive personal protection. Oh yes: later the FBI apparently investigated a journalist who had reported on the protective measures for Wilkins.

The proximity to the government probably also pays off financially for Wilkins. US President Donald Trump presented the “Great American State Fair” in June to mark the 250th birthday of the USA. Several singers and bands canceled their performances because the event did not seem neutral and non-partisan enough to them. Wilkins was allowed to step in as a singer.

Well: Wilkins just called in the justice system. For the good and the bad times.
