Nile fever: sixteen human cases of contagion in the Oristano area

The human cases of Nile Fever virus infection in the Province of Oristano have risen to sixteen. The last two diagnoses were for two people over seventy: the first was admitted to the San Martino hospital in Oristano, while the second, after a trip to the emergency room, returned home.

The Prevention department of the ASL 5 of Oristano immediately launched the epidemiological investigation and prophylactic activities, which require the competent authorities to disinfest the area of ​​residence of the people who have contracted the virus.

The first case of West Nile dates back to last May and involved a person over sixty, the second a person over ninety who, after contracting the virus and developing the disease, unfortunately died. The third case, an over sixty year old, who was discharged from the Oristano hospital and returned home, the fourth an over eighty five year old, still hospitalized at San Martino, the fifth case and the sixth case a fifty year old and an over seventy year old, who have both returned to their homes, the seventh and eighth cases two over seventy year olds still hospitalized at the San Martino hospital in Oristano, the ninth an over fifty year old, who has already returned to house. From the tenth to the twelfth case, two over seventies and one over fifty, still hospitalized at the Oristano hospital, the thirteenth and fourteenth cases an over fifty and one over eighty, also still under observation in the Oristano hospital.

"We invite - recommends the director of the Prevention Department Maria Valentina Marras - once again the citizens, in particular the frail and elderly, to prevent any risk situations and to protect themselves from the bites of this insect with all the tools we remember: avoid stagnant water, protect yourself with repellent sprays and long clothes when you are outdoors, shield your home with mosquito nets".
