The alleged murderer of Abdellatif Bensefiyan arrested in Basiliano

The escape of Mohamed Koufi, the 32-year-old man considered the alleged murderer of Abdellatif Bensefiyan, 65 years old, of Moroccan origins, brother of the alleged attacker's ex-girlfriend, lasted less than 24 hours. Koufi was stopped in the afternoon at the Basiliano train station (Udine).

It would have been him of Moroccan nationality who ambushed the victim last night not far from the latter's home in Udine. According to what ANSA has learned, the man did not resist and was neutralized by the soldiers of the investigative unit of the provincial command of Udine. Immediately afterwards the man was taken to the barracks. It became clear that there could be a turning point in the search mid-afternoon when the police found, in an area not far from the crime scene, some knives, a backpack containing clothing and personal objects, and a wig. The material, which is being investigated by the military's scientific investigation departments, could have belonged to Koufi. The knives will be examined because among them there could be the weapon used in the assassination. As well as perhaps a screwdriver that was found covered in blood right at the crime scene. However, medico-legal investigations will clarify precisely which object caused the fatal wounds, in particular the one to the heart inflicted on Bensefiyan.

The task for the autopsy should be entrusted next week by the Udine Prosecutor's Office. Investigators worked to reconstruct what happened in the hours and days preceding the ambush. In particular, checks are underway on an episode that occurred on Thursday, when the alleged murderer allegedly damaged the car of another of the woman's relatives, breaking the windows and slashing the tyres. According to the owner, his son was threatened by Koufi. Precisely for this episode, a few hours before the fatal ambush, the victim's brother-in-law - husband of another sister of the woman, therefore not of the family member who had had a relationship with the 32-year-old - had gone to the police station to file a complaint. A passage that is now being evaluated by investigators as part of the reconstruction of the sequence of intimidation and threats that preceded the crime. The man, in fact, would not have accepted the end of the relationship with the victim's sister, who he also threatened. The forensic investigations of the force are now focused on the material found today, in search of footprints, biological traces and other elements that could establish a direct connection with the 32-year-old and the ambush.
