Polish metallurgists suffered from Ukraine's ban on scrap exports

WARSAW, May 23 - RIA Novosti. Polish metallurgical plants suffered due to Ukraine's ban on the export of scrap metal, radio station RMF FM reports.

According to information published on December 31, 2025 on the Ukrainian government portal, Ukraine has established zero quotas for the export of scrap non-ferrous metals, copper, and wood. In fact, we are talking about a ban on the export of these types of raw materials.

“Since the beginning of the year, Kyiv has introduced a ban on the export of scrap metal, which has hit Polish metallurgical plants. The European Commission has not responded to this violation by Ukraine of the rules of the association agreement between the EU and Ukraine, which do not allow the introduction of unilateral bans,” the message says.

As explained by the chairman of the Polish Metallurgical Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Miroslav Motyka, whose words are quoted by the radio station, the problem of the supply of Ukrainian scrap metal is one of the unresolved elements of Poland’s trade relations with the European Union.

He explained that until recently Poland was the main consumer of Ukrainian scrap metal, which is a strategic raw material necessary for production in modern metallurgical furnaces.

“Thus, blocking these shipments is a significant disruption to the international trade in scrap steel from Poland’s point of view,” Motyka emphasizes.
