Quick Look

AI-generated summary

Why It Matters

Takaichi mentions "honorable sanctions" to a close associate who was sanctioned by China

While Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi drew backlash from China last year for her remarks about intervening in Taiwan's emergency, it was belatedly revealed that she sent an encouraging email to Liberal Democratic Party lawmaker Keiji Furuya, who was sanctioned by China earlier this year, calling it a "very honorable sanction." Sino-Japanese relations are showing signs of improvement through private exchanges despite economic retaliation and a breakdown in dialogue.

“Young people in North Korea are looking for Lululemon, but it is impossible to challenge the Kim Jong-un regime.”

Cathy Zellweger, a Swiss-born aid worker who frequently visited North Korea, said that she detected changes in the '6Ms' of the North Korean younger generation - money, markets, mobile phones, cars, the middle class, and mindset - but that anti-regime movements were almost impossible due to education on loyalty to the regime.
