Palestinian Prisoners Association: Violations and health problems are increasing in Israeli prisons

In the statement made by the Palestinian Prisoners Association, it was stated that the violations included physical attacks, humiliation and repeated raids, as well as deterioration in health conditions, in the evaluation prepared based on visits to Israeli prisons in August and early September.

In the statement, attention was drawn to the visit of Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir, together with his family members, to the section where female prisoners are kept in "Damon" Prison.

It was reported that Ben-Gvir published a video showing him entering two rooms, recording the visit, and making threats to female captives.

In its statement, the Palestinian Prisoners Association warned that prisons and female prisoners should not be turned into "political demonstration and propaganda material".

It was stated that some female captives stated that they were subjected to repeated raids in the prison, that they were deprived of their personal belongings for 3 days after the visit, and that they were not allowed to shower or go out to the open air.

It was reported that one of the female captives said that her hands and eyes were tied, that she was taken out and forced to lie on the ground, and that she was shouted at and insulted.

It was also noted that the prisoner in question stated that the isolation and raids were repeated and that the raids were recorded.

The Palestinian Prisoners Association noted that skin diseases such as scabies and allergies have become common among female prisoners in Damon Prison, and that this situation is due to difficult health and environmental conditions.

Scabies is spreading in Ofer Prison

The Palestinian Prisoners Association reported that scabies had spread among the detainees in Ofer Prison due to crowding, inadequate ventilation, lack of cleaning materials and delay in treatment.

It was stated that one of the prisoners had been suffering from this disease for about 4 months and that boils and inflammations had spread throughout his body.

In the statement, it was noted that starvation, physical assault, humiliation and isolation practices continue in some other prisons.

Child captive Muhammed Hamid's health condition is serious

In the statement, the health condition of child Muhammed Hamid, who contracted scabies while he was held in Ofer Prison, was pointed out.

It was stated in the statement that Hamid's health condition had seriously deteriorated, one of his feet was amputated due to complications caused by the disease, and that Hamid had undergone a series of surgeries, the deterioration in his health condition continued and he continued to receive treatment at Shaare Zedek Hospital in Israel.

According to the data of the Palestinian Prisoners Association, there are more than 9,400 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons, including 370 children and 92 women. Human rights reports contain information about torture and medical neglect practices against detainees.
