Fluminense beats Palmeiras 3-2 and ends the drought in the Brasileirão

Fluminense ended an eight-game streak without winning and, as a bonus, disrupted Palmeiras' plans, which could take the lead in the Brazilian Championship. This Saturday (15), Tricolor beat Verdão 3-2, coming from behind, at Maracanã, in a match that opened the 23rd round of the competition.

The Rio team was led by assistant Marcão. He led the team on an interim basis after the dismissal of coach Luís Zubeldia last Thursday (13), shortly after the 0-0 with Independiente Rivadavia (Argentina) last Tuesday (11), also in Rio de Janeiro, in the first game of the round of 16 of the Libertadores.

The Tricolores, who had seven draws and one defeat in their negative streak, reached 38 points and remain in fourth place, in the 2027 Libertadores classification zone, which brings together the top five (the so-called G-5).

Palmeiras, on the other hand, remains with 48 points and could see the difference between vice-leader Flamengo, six points at the start of the round, drop to just three. Rubro-Negro will go to Maião, in Mirassol (SP), to face the home team this Sunday (16), at 6:30 pm (Brasília time).

The visitors took the lead after just nine minutes, through Gustavo Gómez. The Paraguayan rose higher than fellow defender Jemmes, after a corner kick from full-back Joaquín Piquerez on the left, and his header went over goalkeeper Fábio.

Fluminense managed to equalize just before half-time. At 42, Agustín Canobbio received the ball on the right and crossed for fellow striker Hulk to head the ball into the Palmeiras goal. It was the second time he scored for Tricolor.

In the final stage, in the 36th minute, striker Flaco López headed the shot from goalkeeper Carlos Miguel and left Maurício in the face of Fábio. The midfielder – who had entered the field a little earlier, replacing midfielder Andreas Pereira – hit the goalkeeper's exit, putting Verdão back ahead.

The Alviverde advantage, however, lasted three minutes. At 39, full-back Guga crossed from the right, Germán Cano headed the ball at the right post and, in the end, fellow striker Kevin Serna completed the ball into the net.
