France: new crackdown on social media for children under 15, the text notified to Brussels

France returns to the ban on access to social networks for children under 15 years of age. The government has in fact completed a new version of the provision and notified it to the European Commission, after a previous proposal had been rejected by the Constitutional Council. President Emmanuel Macron announced it on X.

The new wording of the text

"After rigorous technical work, the government today notifies the (European) Commission of a new wording of the text, one month after the Council's decision," announced the French head of state. The notification represents a necessary step to ensure that future legislative text complies with European law. "We will get to the bottom of it," Macron assured, recalling that he asked Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu to "find a way out" that conformed both to the observations of the Constitutional Council and to the requirements of European law, after the rejection of the text in mid-August.
